A paraseismic Building
The building in dialogue with Mount Pelee in an environment bordered by the Caribbean Sea and fields of sugar cane and bananas.
This design earthquake makes it an education tool arousing the interest of visitors on the major natural risk of the region. (Earthquakes, volcanic eruption, cylone.)The floor of the building rests on a shaft and between pillars have been inserted of elastomer supports. Those supports, used to support bridges decks absorb the force caused by earthqakes, and make it possible to separate the floor from its supports. They thus allow a slight lateral displacement with a maximum 20cm. This movement can be perceived in the event of very strong wind or weak earthquakes.
Be Well, this is normal !
